The POS industry dates back to the 1970s with archaic, siloed architecture. Mr. Jerry Crosetti, one of the pioneers in the industry and the first R&D and Manufacturing Director at Verifone, founded Blue Bamboo with Kaishen Zhu, now founder of WizarPOS, in 2002. Both were determined to transform the stereotypical point of sale terminals into open-platform devices with an open ecosystem, hence empowering multiple applications and value-added services on a single terminal.
Within two years, Blue Bamboo rose as a disruptor in the wireless POS terminal industry and became the only startup as a steering member of the GlobalPlatform Device Committee backed by VISA, MasterCard, and PCI. The Committee defined the GP device specifications.
One derivative, which is known as TEE in the mobile industry has been widely adopted and embedded in every smartphone. Under the stewardship of Jerry and Kaishen, the world’s first PCI PTS certified wireless POS was launched in 2005, followed by the world’s first mass-production GlobalPlatform-based Java POS. Kaishen himself received the Star Awards of GlobalPlatform in 2005.
In 2012 Kaishen predicted the outbreak of smartphones that could shake up the POS industry, thanks to the scale effect of the supply chain in Asia and evolving maturity of the Android developer ecosystem. Partnered with other four industry experts, Kaishen founded WizarPOS to challenge the status quo of the conventional POS system.
